Amityville - The Resurgence review

Amityville - The Resurgence

The story of the Amityville Horror is absolutely my favorite haunted house/ghost story of all time. While it’s possible the only truth about the story is the DeFeo murders, I love everything about it. The walls oozing, the 3:15AM wake up, flies in the dead of winter, the red room – all of it! If you’re in NYC you have to head up to Long Island to do a drive by of the house. For people like me that eat this stuff up, I really enjoyed watching Amityville - The Resurgence which is the newest piece from investigator Sean Austin. I was especially happy to do this review for him since I love the subject so much.

Sean doesn’t go into the house and have an elaborate investigation here, but The Resurgence covers a lot of interesting aspects of the case including one of the most famous images ever taken at the house. A spooky photo of a boy was taken at the home during an investigation in 1976 that to this day has no concrete explanation. Starting with the standard recap of what happened with the DeFeo family followed by the Lutz’s experience, we get into what happens when you use a spirit box at a REALLY haunted location. Amazing to see the results he got from that device while conducting these sessions from his car outside and down the street from the house. Your first instinct is to be skeptical but stay with it and appreciate it. Joining Sean again is Ralph Sarchie who actually worked with Ed and Lorraine Warren when they investigated the Amityville case and is great to watch in this piece. We also get to meet a resident of Amityville as she explains a bit about living there and what the outside world thinks of Amityville solely based on the phenomenon we all know. I want to go on more about everything in this but I want you to watch it, so I don’t want to play spoiler here.

With some well-done interviews, archival and drone footage, The Resurgence comes in at just under 90 minutes. Went by quickly for me as the pacing and content were very interesting. It’s the case every investigator anywhere in the world wants to take. Everyone has heard about Amityville. I think Sean’s take on it is unique in the fact I have never seen anyone investigate there the way he did – and with amazing results. The public is split down the middle on what happened at 112 Ocean Avenue. The only thing we know for sure is that Ronald DeFeo Jr. killed his entire family there in 1974 and there are a lot of creepy things that happened that night. As for what happened after that is up to each person. I’d suggest giving this a watch though to see it through a slightly different lens. Watch it on ScareNetwork.tv starting February 18th - https://www.scarenetwork.tv
